Waffle Church

Join us for the *first ever* Waffle Church, July 11th @ 5pm!

That's right, it's Church and Waffles.

What is Waffle Church?

Waffle Church is a once a month, interactive and participatory worship service for ages from 0-120. Every service will center around communion which will be extended to sharing a meal, and that meal will be, you guessed it, WAFFLES!

In July, we will explore rituals through the story of the crossing of Jordan by the Israelites. We will play with water, stones and set some new rituals as we immerse ourselves in the Bible story, sing songs, play instruments, share in communion and eat waffles. All moments of worship are call and response so all can engage not matter their age! Our waffles for this Sunday will be Sweet: Belgian Waffles w/ fruit, chocolate rocks, and whipped cream; Savory: Falafel Waffles, Tzatziki Sauce and Greek Salad.

Come at 4:30pm for water, coffee, juice and to help us finish setting up/ familiarize yourself with the space. Worship begins at 5 PM. We will finish around 6:30pm.

Thank you to St. Lydia's Church in Brooklyn, NY for sharing this name and providing us guidance as we create this new style of worship!

Why Waffle Church?

The idea came out of a question about how to do Children, Youth and Family Formation in a time when Sunday School is just not possible with Coronavirus realities. A lot of research pointed Christian Formation to think about restructuring formation around engaging worship, instead of a Sunday school revamp!

So, we set off to find a format that would work for our local context. We noticed that many of our adults are supported and cared for in our traditional worship, and that our kids and many of our adult worshippers, were really looking for services that were fully interactive. Where wiggles were welcome, deep questions could be grappled with together as an intergenerational group and where all were seen, supported, nurtured and leaders. It's a lofty goal, and we think, with God's help, Waffle Church will help us do this!
