Trinity MOPS Inclusion Class Openings

We are presently interviewing typically developing students and those students with Individualized Education Plans (IEP) for our 2010-2011 afternoon Inclusion class. Students in this class are between the age of 3 ¾ and 5 years of age. The class meets Monday through Thursday from 1pm to 3:45 pm.

The Trinity MOPS Inclusive Preschool classroom was launched in September 2004 with the goal of providing a preschool environment where typically developing children and children with an IEP learn side-by-side. The class is targeted to serve a population of 60-70% typically developing children and 30-40% children with an IEP in speech, language and motor processing.  A speech language pathologist and an occupational therapist visit the class once a week, to create activities and scenarios that promote language, interaction and problem solving among all the children in the class.

If you are interested in having your child participate in such a program, please contact Trinity MOPS Preschool to schedule an appointment.

 Trinity MOPS Preschool

Trinity MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) Preschool offers a morning preschool program for children 18 months to five years of age.  Our children attend from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm.  Our goal is to provide a loving environment where children can grow physically, socially, emotionally and intellectually through an philosophy of "learning through play."   Trinity MOPS is licensed by the State of Virginia.

Our school is a program of Trinity United Methodist Church, operating under the guidance and supervision of the Trinity MOPS Governing Board. The Board serves as a liaison between the church and the school.  The Board membership includes MOPS parents, Trinity congregation members, and Trinity MOPS staff.   The school opened in November 1967.  We accept children of all racial, ethic and religious backgrounds.  Cultural and religious traditions at holidays, especially Christmas, are incorporated into the program with the Christian tradition being emphasized.  By sharing customs, ideas and traditions, we help to promote understanding and acceptance of each other.

Enrollment:
MOPS enrollment is non-discriminatory and is prioritized as follows:

1. Current MOPS students
2. Siblings of current MOPS students
3. Children of Trinity United Methodist Church members*
4. Children from previous MOPS families
5. Children selected by lottery

* To qualify for this priority level, TUMC defines "member" as an active church participant for a period of six months prior to application into the MOPS program.  Final determination will be made at the pastor's discretion.

Tuition and Fees:
At the time of registration, a non-refundable fee must accompany each application.  When a child is accepted into MOPS, a one month advance tuition must be paid.  This is applied to May, or to the last month of attendance when a thirty day notice is given.  There is also a one-time supply fee which is based on the number of days a week that your child will attend.

Our school provides a program carefully planned to give your child creative experiences and highly qualified teachers to stimulate his or her intellectual development. Therefore our expenses are fixed for the year.  No financial adjustment is made for absence.

Please call the MOPS office for information on the registration fee, monthly tuition, and supply fees.

Field Trips:
Some of the older classes may take trips away from the school.  Trips are planned in conjunction with themes and ideas the class is exploring.  These outings are planned well in advance.  Parents make our field trips possible by providing transportation and supervision.  The children cannot leave the school unless safe transportation is available - a car seat for each child - and there are enough adults to insure safety.

Snack:
A simple snack in a labeled lunch box should be brought from home.  Please keep the food simple and nutritious - no meat, mayonnaise, or other foods which can easily spoil if not refrigerated.  Best bets are cheese and crackers or fruit chunks.
MOPS is a Peanut and Tree Nut Free School!

Music and Science:
In addition to using musical games and songs as a part of their everyday activities, the children will have a regular music program coordinated by our music teacher.  The children will explore creative movement, singing, and playing rhythm instruments.  Once a month the children meet with the science teacher in the Science and Tech Room.  Hands on activities, take home projects and information sheets with follow-up activities are all part of the program.

Craft Program:
Trinity Crafts is also sponsored by Trinity UMC and provides an afternoon enrichment program for those children who attend the four or five day classes.  Children bring a lunch from home.  Eating lunch together gives us the opportunity to discuss foods, nutrition, and table manners.  The craft program provides children with opportunities for creative expression by exposing them to a wide variety of artistic media.  Outdoor play and story time are also part of this program.  The program runs from 12:30 to 2:30pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  Children may elect to attend one, two or all three days a week.

Computer Classes:
MOPS offers a computer program which provides training designated to teach computer literacy to children three to five years of age, using an Apple IIGS.  The object is to give your child an uninterrupted half-hour computer lesson with a certified teacher to explore the exciting world of computers. Registered students will receive computer training once a week in groups of three.  Computer software packages are available that are geared specifically for this age group.  This program is purely elective.

Discipline:
All children will be cared for, encouraged, praised, and helped to learn positive self control in a warm, safe and supportive environment.  No person employed by, volunteering for, or in any way connected with Trinity MOPS and Trinity Crafts will use any physical punishment or disciplinary action administered to the body of any child in these programs.

Notices from School:
MOPS notices will be sent home in the children's shoe pockets and through the use of e-mail. Please be sure to read what comes home.  Special events, schedule changes and other important information will be sent home this way.  Monthly newsletters will also be sent home at the end of each month.  This is the best way we have of keeping the lines of communication open.  Please be sure to take the time to read these newsletters.
