Safe SanctuariesSafe Sanctuaries "Safe Sanctuaries,” is a term used to describe practices, policies, and procedures that work to provide a caring and secure environment for children and youth, as well as the adults who teach and serve them. Though we often do not want to think about the need for a "child protection" policy to be in place at church, it speaks directly to our care for the children and youth of Trinity, as well as those who serve them. We invite our entire Trinity family to become familiar with our policy. It is reviewed and updated annually. Some particular highlights include: 1) Two-adult rule: Two unrelated adults age 18 or older must always be present for all children and youth activities. 2) Screening for Workers: All employed and volunteer leaders and assistants for children and youth ministries will be asked to sign a statement and undergo a background check ensuring there are no prior convictions of child abuse or neglect 3) Nursery Sign-In: parents are required to sign-in and sign-out their children from the nursery, pagers are made available whenever possible 4) Training for those working with children and youth: All staff and volunteers working with children and youth must attend a training session, provided by the Child Protection Committee (offered at least once a year), before serving as a leader. |
